Why this role matters

Signs and literature only help if they actually reach the right place. This team handles deliveries, tracks requests, and helps keep materials moving without pulling canvassers or the candidate away from voter contact.

What You'll Do

Pick up campaign signs, literature, or other materials from the designated campaign location
Deliver requested lawn signs and literature to assigned addresses
Track completed, missed, damaged, or removed sign requests accurately
Follow campaign instructions and City rules for sign placement
Help retrieve signs and reusable materials after Election Day
Report low inventory, damaged signs, or unusual placement issues to the campaign team

This could be a good fit if…

You know Peterborough reasonably well or are comfortable following a route
You like practical tasks with a clear beginning and end
You're reliable about recording what was delivered
You have access to a vehicle, bicycle, or another suitable way to complete deliveries, though some routes may be walkable
You're comfortable working independently once the route is assigned
Volunteers under 18 can help with sorting, walking routes, or paired deliveries. Driving assignments require a valid licence and an appropriately insured vehicle.

Before Your First Shift

A plain description of what a canvassing shift actually asks of you, so you can decide for yourself whether it fits.

Physical Activity

Some routes involve repeated getting in and out of a vehicle, carrying bundles of material, walking across properties, bending, and installing signs. Lighter delivery or tracking tasks are available for volunteers who should avoid lifting.

You’ll get a short briefing on the delivery tracker, sign-placement rules, pickup and return procedures, and what to do when a requested placement is unclear or unsafe.

Equipment Provided

Campaign signs, stakes, literature, and delivery lists
Basic sign-installation supplies where required
Route information and sign-placement instructions
High-visibility gear where appropriate and available Volunteer Brings

Volunteer Brings

A charged phone
Weather-appropriate clothing
Suitable footwear
A vehicle or other transportation if you've volunteered for a driving route

Do not place signs in traffic lanes, on sidewalks, or where they obstruct sightlines. Follow the City of Peterborough’s current campaign-sign rules and campaign instructions. Do not stop in unsafe traffic locations or enter private property beyond what is required for an authorized delivery.

Delivery routes can be matched to your mobility and lifting limits. Volunteers who cannot install signs can still help with route planning, request tracking, literature sorting, or paired deliveries.

If you need an accommodation or a different way to participate, tell us what would make the role workable. We can often adjust the task, schedule, location, pace, or tools.
