Independent mobility for young people

Independent mobility for young people

What I heard

One contribution focused on young people who cannot reliably reach work, school or social activities without a car or help from their parents. The vision was for transit that gives youth genuine freedom of movement.

Why it matters

Transportation affects whether young people can accept a job, attend activities, maintain friendships and begin participating independently in their community.

What I learned...

This contribution added an age-specific perspective to the wider transit discussion. A route or fare that appears workable for an adult commuter may not work for a young person travelling at different times or without access to a car.
Jurisdiction notes
The City controls Peterborough Transit fares, routes and service planning through municipal decisions and budgets. School transportation and broader youth supports involve school boards, community organizations and the Province.
