A safe, stable and affordable home for everyone

A safe, stable and affordable home for everyone

What I heard

Housing was the strongest theme across the Hope City conversations. Participants described a Peterborough where people are not forced to leave because they can no longer afford to stay, and where homelessness is treated with urgency.

Why it matters

Stable housing supports health, employment, education and community connection. When housing costs push people out or leave them without a home, every other part of life becomes harder to sustain.

What I learned...

This theme drew contributions from 22 unique respondents across all three sessions, making it the broadest shared vision in the dataset.
Jurisdiction notes
The City of Peterborough is the service manager for housing and homelessness in the City and County. Council can influence local housing through planning, municipal land, affordable-housing programs, homelessness services and partnerships. Provincial and federal policy, funding, income supports and housing programs remain essential to the scale of the response.
