A greener city prepared for a changing climate

A greener city prepared for a changing climate

What I heard

Participants envisioned measurable climate progress, cooler and safer homes and public spaces, stronger preparation for extreme weather, and a more resilient and self-reliant Peterborough.

Why it matters

Extreme heat, storms, flooding and changing energy costs do not affect everyone equally. Local infrastructure, housing and emergency planning determine how well residents can withstand those pressures.

What I learned...

Participants connected emissions reduction with adaptation. They wanted the City to reduce its climate impact while also preparing neighbourhoods and vulnerable residents for conditions already changing.
Jurisdiction notes
The City controls municipal buildings, fleets, land-use decisions, local infrastructure, emergency planning and some community climate programs. Building codes, electricity systems, major funding and national emissions policy involve provincial and federal governments.
