A City Hall that helps local enterprise succeed

A City Hall that helps local enterprise succeed

What I heard

Participants wanted the City to be an active partner to small businesses and community enterprises. They emphasized simpler processes, practical support and fewer unnecessary barriers for people trying to start or grow something locally.

Why it matters

Small businesses and community enterprises create jobs, services and gathering places. Complicated or unpredictable municipal processes can be especially difficult for organizations without large administrative teams.

What I learned...

The vision was less about one grant program than about the overall experience of dealing with City Hall: clear information, reasonable timelines and staff who help applicants understand the next step.
Jurisdiction notes
The City directly controls many local permits, licences, development processes, streetscape decisions and economic-development programs. Provincial and federal taxes, labour rules and financing programs remain outside municipal control.
